We have been conditioned for years by the marketing experts to super size our value meals. Bigger is better. However, when it comes to pizza, the same marketing ‘experts’ try to pull a fast one on the consumer. It’s a classic case of perception vs. reality. All pizzerias have a ‘Large’ pizza size on their menu. But the term ‘Large’ is subjective, and is not universally defined the same way. Many of the national chains define large as 14″. Customers who order a ‘Large’ pizza from these national chains perceive they are getting a ‘Large’ pizza, but in reality, they are receiving a Medium pizza. The Pittsboro Pizzeria thinks this is wrong and uses a 16″ size for its Large Pizza.
Most consumers do not take the time to analyze the difference in large pizza sizes. This is unfortunate. As a consumer you are paying for a “Large” pizza, but receiving 23% less in square inches. This also means you are receiving about one-fourth less cheese and toppings. Of course the national chains can offer you “Large” pizzas at a discount price; because, they aren’t really large sizes! Just something to consider next time you order a pizza from a national chain. Are you really getting what you are paying for?
